melluransaMight as well, since this is number 21 and this group's name is 2NE1. It's pronounced as "To anyone."
2ne1 is a kpop girl group. Those who don't like kpop can run away now. *looks at watch* Ok, so those who have stayed, 2ne1 is a kpop group that isn't like the other cookie-cutter cotton candy girl groups that are in kpop. Those groups sing lovey dovey songs that are sweet and ok, but not gritty or powerful. No attitude, no spunk.
However, 2ne1's songs are gritty, spunky. This is a huge reason why I like them.
There's I don't care, which is about ...well, not caring. There's songs like Clap your hands, Follow me, Fire, I'm busy and Can't nobody, which are about standing up and doing what you want, having fun, and being good at it.
And in that respect, there's the famous I am the best, which I swear I'm going to get tattooed on me one day. Naega jeil jal naga. boop boop boop boop. Naega jeil jal naga. NAEGA JEIL JAL NAGA. That was THE SONG of 2011, hands down. It's legendary. It's ridiculous. It's in-your-face, make you grin and get up and dance and chant the chorus over and over again. This song was my life anthem for months.
There's Ugly, which is about feeling insecure. Lonely is about falling out of love. Hate you is about hating someone and breaking up with them. Love is ouch is about how love is no good. Go away is about telling someone to go away because they're being fake in the relationship. It hurts, well. Love can hurt.
So their songs are about different subject matter than the rest of all the kpop out there. Additionally, 2ne1's style and fashion is interesting too. I say interesting as in fashionable, but I also mean it to include in bad taste (because they commit fashion crimes sometimes).
Their voices are powerful and have character. Their voices are unmistakable to me. Bom and CL's voices, especially. Their songs are all upbeat sounding, which I appreciate! I'm not a fan of slow-paced ballad type songs. These are the songs I listen to to get energized. Whoo! There are also some amazing remixes of their songs by all the kpop remixers out there....Rex Rowdee, Epitone, Amaya, Areia, Robotaki, G Sweet... just to name a few. The remixes are great too, sometimes even greater than the originals.
There was also MoA, some girl from somewhere in Europe who covered all of 2ne1's songs amazingly... but it turns out she's a professional singer wherever she's from, and her label was furious at her for covering kpop songs. She left, and I cried for real. Her English covers were amazing.
2ne1 is also great because they encourage the fans to contribute and create. They have dance cover contests, and song cover contests that blow up on youtube. The dance cover that won the "I am the best" contest is my favorite dance vid ever, maybe.
Look at that attitude. There's even a poodle, there's so much attitude. Their music videos are always, always over the top. It's almost tacky and ridiculous how over the top they are, but somehow 2ne1 makes it work so it's not distasteful and is awesome instead.

2ne1 are a source of jokes for me, as I'm convinced Park Bom is a robot. She got so much plastic surgery around her eyes that she can't move her upper face anymore, so she's not very expressive up there. She can blink and look around, but that's it. So I joke that she's a robot. Plus, she's so perfect looking. I always tease Minzy for her unflattering short hair, and I always tease Dara and say that bad singing runs in the family (her brother Cheondoong from MBLAQ can't sing, either). I don't joke about CL. She just...doesn't lend herself to jokes.
2NE1 won some MTV thing for being awesome, last year. MTV Iggy award, I think? I watched the event stream live, and it was awesome! It took place in New York City, and I was really proud to see all the screaming excited American fans gathered there.
2ne1's songs are potentially very annoying, and I took great pleasure in singing them all at this lady at my old job! I followed this lady around everywhere, singing these songs nonstop. She hated me! That was so much fun to annoy her. Thanks, 2ne1. You helped me achieve that small victory in my life.
I also like 2ne1 because I like and enjoy them without going nuts over them, you know? It's not like Tokio Hotel where I get obsessed. But I do have a little LJ icon of 2ne1... up there is CL petting a kitty. Oh, and I have another one! It's the one with the girl next to a man dressed in a giraffe suit. That's Dara, and her younger brother in the suit (Cheondoong). Dara and Cheondoong remind me of myself and my little brother.
